MANILA – At least 501 more patients have recovered from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), pushing the country's overall recovery count to 704,386 on Wednesday.

In its latest case bulletin, the Department of Health (DOH) said those who have beaten the illness account for 78.9 percent of the Philippines' total case tally which has reached 892,880.

The agency also reported 8,122 new confirmed cases and 162 new deaths.

These figures bring the overall tally of active cases to 173,047 and the death toll to 15,447.

The DOH said about 96.3 percent of the active cases are mild, 2.4 percent are asymptomatic, 0.5 percent are severe, 0.31 percent are moderate, and 0.4 percent are in critical condition.

"There were 25 duplicates removed from the total case count as 14 of these are recoveries and one is death. Moreover, 64 cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” it said.

It explained that the low number of cases is due to the low testing output of laboratories on April 12.

DOH data on April 13 showed that 19.5 percent of 39,796 who were tested turned out positive for Covid-19.

Twelve laboratories were not able to submit their data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System on Tuesday.

To date, 68 percent of 1,900 intensive care unit beds, 50 percent of 13,500 isolation beds, 55 percent of 6,000 ward beds, and 47 percent of 2,000 ventilators dedicated to patients with Covid-19 are in use nationwide.

Meanwhile, 88 percent of 700 intensive care unit beds, 65 percent of 3,800 isolation beds, 65 percent of 2,200 ward beds, and 63 percent of 800 ventilators dedicated to patients with Covid-19 are used in the National Capital Region.

The public is reminded to stay at home and to observe minimum health standards when going out.

The DOH urged those experiencing Covid-19 symptoms to immediately isolate and contact the Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams. (PNA)
