MANILA – The spike in coronavirus cases is not unique to the Philippines.

This fact was emphasized by National Task Force (NTF) Against Covid-19 medical adviser Dr. Teddy Herbosa during the Palace briefing on Thursday.

He echoed World Health Organization representative to the Philippine Dr. Rabi Abeyasinghe's previous pronouncements that the increasing number of Covid-19 infections is also happening in other countries.

Herbosa said various responses to the health crisis are still in place, based on the recommendations of experts and scientific guidelines.

Among those are synchronized efforts of the national government, local government units (LGUs), and the private sector to combat the pandemic.

"Ang government at ang private sector partners, ang mga volunteers ay marami na pong nagawa (The government and the private sector partners, the volunteers, have already done a lot)," Herbosa said.

He said LGUs have been helpful in implementing strategies to contain Covid-19 transmissions, like mass testing, contact tracing, isolation, and treatment.

"Marami pang kailangang gawin, totoo po iyon, at lahat ng sektor ay kailangang mag-unite at tumulong sa ating pamahalaan para mahinto na natin itong dreadful na pandemic na ito (There is still much to be done, that is true, and all sectors need to unite and help our government so that we can end this dreadful pandemic)," he said.

He also pointed out a downtrend in the number of healthcare workers being infected.

He said health authorities are addressing the stressful effects of the pandemic among healthcare, like the burnout from wearing personal protective equipment all day.

"Mayroong mga measures na ginawa. Iyong sa PGH (Philippine General Hospital), gumawa kami ng parang mga webinar na para nakakausap iyong ating mga health workers. Mayroong nagpi-present ng mga hobby nila and it had a good effect kasi parang hindi naman Covid ang pinag-uusapan nila (We have measures to address those. At the PGH, we are conducting webinars for healthcare workers where they can talk about hobbies and it had a good effect as they don't talk about Covid)," he said. (PNA)
