2 more cops die of Covid-19

MANILA – Two more police officers died of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), raising the police force's death toll to 49, a Philippine National Police (PNP) official said on Friday.

Citing Thursday night’s Covid-19 update, Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, PNP deputy chief for administration, said the 48th fatality is a 50-year-old non-commissioned officer assigned at the Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit of the Directorate for Personnel and Records Management who died on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the 49th fatality is a 55-year-old non-commissioned officer assigned at the Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit of the Directorate for Personnel and Records Management and is scheduled for retirement. He died on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the PNP also recorded 215 new recoveries bringing the total tally to 15,764.

It also reported an additional 194 Covid-19 cases, raising the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases to 18,262.

Of the new cases, 189 are tagged as new infections while the remaining five are classified as reinfections.

The PNP has so far 2,449 active Covid-19 cases. (PNA)
