DAVAO CITY – The city government is preparing additional 891 isolation beds to prepare for a possible surge of confirmed coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in this city, Mayor Sara Z. Duterte said Monday.

Despite the decreasing number of cases, Mayor Sara said the additional beds are on top of the existing 1,993 beds at the temporary treatment and monitoring facilities (TTMFs), where 429 are currently occupied.

“We have been preparing for the surge that is why we increase our bed capacity. Once the beds are ready, we plan to return the donated or borrowed TTMFs from private offices and organizations,” Duterte said in a radio interview.

In the meantime, she said the city government will only use government-owned TTMFs so as not to incur any more costs for repairs of private-owned facilities.

“It’s not necessarily just schools, it means facilities owned by the government,” Mayor Sara added.

Acting Health Officer Dr. Ashley Lopez earlier said the city currently has 12 functional TTMFs or isolation facilities intended for confirmed Covid-19 positive cases.

As Covid-19 cases declined in recent weeks, the city recorded low occupancy rates in TTMFs and at the Southern Philippines Medical Center. (PNA)
