Week-long police ops net 177 fugitives in E. Visayas

TACLOBAN CITY – The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Eastern Visayas on Tuesday reported the arrest of 177 wanted persons and 171 other offenders in its intensified seven-day operations.

Of the 177 wanted persons, 21 of them are classified as most wanted in the regional, provincial, municipal, city station levels. They were arrested in relentless police operations from April 11 to 17, 2021.

“Accordingly, intensified implementation of special laws during the seven-day operations resulted in the arrest of 103 personalities involved in illegal fishing, five in illegal logging, 50 illegal gambling, and 13 drug suspects,” PNP regional director Brig. Gen. Ronaldo de Jesus in a statement sent to reporters.

De Jesus asked all PNP field units in six provinces to intensify their operations against criminals despite the “scourging threat" of coronavirus disease 2019.

The intensified operation is part of the directive of PNP chief Gen. Debold Sinas to account for all fugitives and put them behind bars. (PNA)
