TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Eastern Visayas regional office has already released PHP4.4 million worth of food aid to families affected by Typhoon Bising in Samar provinces.

As of April 26, DSWD has already distributed a total of 8,207 family food packs (FFPs). Of this number, 2,500 FFPs were delivered to Arteche, 2,000 to Jipapad, 877 to Oras, 923 to Can-avid, 307 to Hernani, in the province of Eastern Samar, while 800 were delivered to Catarman and another 800 to Catubig in Northern Samar.

“These food packs have been delivered in badly-affected municipalities as part of DSWD's resource augmentation. The amount of assistance is expected to rise as DSWD continues its efforts to meet the allocated number of FFPs per requesting local government,” said DSWD Eastern Visayas regional information officer Vina Aquino in a phone interview Wednesday.

Each FFP contains six kilos of rice, five sachets of coffee, five sachets of energy cereal drink, four cans of corned beef, four cans of tuna flakes, and two cans of sardines.

Earlier, the DSWD in Eastern Visayas has forged a partnership with the Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) to use its campus facilities in the prepositioning of relief goods before and during typhoons.

These facilities are located at the ESSU main campus in Borongan City and satellite campuses in Can-avid, and Salcedo towns.

These facilities have been used to store 1,400 food packs since April 21. (PNA)
