ZAMBOANGA CITY – The city government has requested the national government to allow Zamboangueño employees of regional offices based in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur, to work from home for 14 days each month.
Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said Wednesday she made the request through Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rolando Joselito Bautista, the Cabinet Officer for Regional Development and Security (CORDS) for Region 9.
Salazar said the work-from-home scheme seeks to limit the employees’ mobility to protect them and their families from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), especially during a time when the Covid-19 cases in the city continue to increase.
The city registered a total of 6,067 confirmed cases based on the Covid-19 tracker data as of April 27. The active cases have increased to 1,370 as 97 new cases were recorded as of the same date.
The recovered cases climbed to 4,465 as 78 new recoveries were registered while the deaths went up to 232 after eight new fatalities have been recorded.
Meanwhile, Salazar said the city government is willing to shoulder the expenses for once-a-month Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) testing for employees of regional offices.
Over a thousand Zamboangueños are employed with the different government agencies’ regional offices that for years were based in the city. They were transferred when Malacañang designated Pagadian City, the capital of Zamboanga del Sur, as the regional capital. (PNA)
