MANILA – The regional fish ports of the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) have recorded their lowest fish unloading volume from April 19 to 25.

PFDA's Operations Services Department showed a cumulative record of 8,688 metric tons (MT) in the ports of Bulan, Davao, General Santos, Iloilo, Lucena, Navotas, Sual, and Zamboanga.

The fish unloading volume for the third week of April decreased by 24.11 percent compared to the cumulative data of 11,448.09 MT from April 12-18.

"This week’s decline is being linked to unfortunate sea conditions brought by the typhoon, forcing several fish species to move towards deeper waters and leaving fishing vessels with no other choice but to find safer locations to fish or dock," the PFDA report said.

On the second week of April, General Santos Fish Port Complex has registered 5,000 MT unloading volume. This week it only recorded some 3,830.81 MT.

Navotas Fish Port Complex could not steer clear from the extensive damage brought about by Typhoon Bising but still managed to unload 3,633.76 MT of fish.

Meanwhile, the Davao Fish Port Complex was the only port with a positive output of 39.12 MT, a 46.33-percent increase from the second week’s unloading volume. (PNA
