LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The provincial Inter-Agency Task Force has effected a liquor ban in the whole province and extended the policy limiting the conduct of wake to four days as measures to control the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Executive Order 2021-009 entitled “Implementation of Modified Enchanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) in the Province of Benguet issued by Governor Melchor Diclas late Tuesday afternoon stated that, “gatherings for necrological services, wakes and funerals must be coordinated with the LGU (Local government unit) concerned and shall be limited to four days including burial day”.

The province was placed under MECQ from May 10 to 23 by the national Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) in a resolution issued on May 9.

The province’s executive order came on the same day following the conduct of an emergency meeting with the members of the local IATF together with the mayors of the 13 municipalities.

The order prohibited people aged 18 and below as well as those who are 65 years old and above to go out of their residences. It also limited religious gatherings to only 30 percent of the venue’s capacity.

The EO also stated that curfew hours will be at the discretion of the concerned municipal government.

Diclas added that community pantries shall remain open to the public subject to compliance with health standards.

All resorts in the province are also closed for the duration of the MECQ.

It also required all 13 municipalities to pass ordinances penalizing violators on the mandatory use of face masks and face shields.

The governor assured that amid the MECQ status of the province, movement of all types of cargo or delivery vehicles shall remain unhampered. (PNA
