Abra leads Cordillera Region with 93% vax utilization rate

BAGUIO CITY – The province of Abra has so far achieved a 93.51-percent utilization rate of its Covid-19 vaccines, the recent report of the Regional Vaccination Operations Center (RVOC) showed.

Out of the 13,729 doses, 8,526 Abreños have received initial shots, RVOC chair and Department of Health (DOH)-Cordillera regional director Dr. Ruby Constantino said in a statement on Tuesday.

Of the total, 41.09 percent or 4,309 have completed two doses.

Abra tops the vaccine utilization rate in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), followed by Benguet with 71.77 percent; Baguio, 71.57 percent; Apayao, 62.16 percent; Mountain Province, 60.63 percent; Kalinga, 59.88 percent; and Ifugao, 48.27 percent.

Overall, the region has vaccinated 52,704 (69.41 percent utilization) belonging to the A1 (medical workers), A2 (senior citizens), and A3 (adults with comorbidities) priority groups, with 20,423 already with two doses.

Records showed 38,117 received Sinovac jabs and 14,587 got AstraZeneca.

A1 had 34,574 vaccinees, 11,711 were senior citizens, and 6,409 belonged to the A3 category.

There were also 10 are from the A4 category (other front-liners in essential sectors) who received jabs during the ceremonial vaccination of daily wage earners and overseas Filipino workers on May 1, Labor Day.

The DOH has allotted 105,538 doses to the six provinces and two cities in the Cordillera.

Antonio Domes-ag, a 68-year-old resident here, will receive his second dose on May 28. He is happy he will soon be fully protected.

“I know people who were infected with the virus and did not make it due to complications, especially senior citizens like me. That is why I have been very careful,” he said in Ilocano.

CAR has 2,853 active Covid-19 cases as of Monday. Baguio tops the list with 942, followed by Ifugao with 694 and Benguet, 595.

A total of 30,900 have recovered, or 90 percent of the 34,334 confirmed infections. (PNA)
