MANILA – The creation of an inter-agency body to simplify the process of benefit claims for uniformed personnel will benefit police officers and their families, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Friday.

“The PNP welcomes this development. Magandang hakbang po ito para mapabilis ang pagbibigay natin ng benepisyo sa ating kapulisan at kanilang mga mahal sa buhay (This is a good step to expedite the release of benefits for our police officers and their loved ones)," PNP chief, Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said in a statement.

He said this initiative is in line with President Rodrigo R. Duterte's orders to hasten the release of benefits to the loved ones of police officers, especially those who died in the line of duty.

On Thursday, the Inter-Agency Task Force on Streamlining the Processing of Uniformed Services Benefit Claims was created with the different uniformed services as members to streamline the process of claims and other entitlements of uniformed personnel and their legal beneficiaries.

The task force, headed by the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA), aims to automate death benefit claims and set up one-stop shops in different regions and localities.

Eleazar, meanwhile, said the PNP has started its own initiatives in ensuring a quick release of benefits for police personnel and their families.

Last March, Duterte tasked the National Police Commission to ensure that the kins of deceased cops no longer have to undergo a tedious process of claiming benefits. (PNA)
