BUTUAN CITY – A police officer assigned at the Highway Patrol Group Team (HPGT) in Agusan del Norte was arrested in an entrapment operation Monday morning inside the HPG headquarters in Cabadbaran City.

Brig. Gen. Romeo M. Caramat Jr., director of Police Regional Office in Caraga Region (PRO-13), identified the arrested cop as PSSg. Ronelo G. Tering-Tering, a resident of Panabo City, Davao del Norte.

“The operation stemmed from the complaint of a businesswoman who disclosed that the aforesaid personnel demanded PHP20,000 in exchange for the release of her impounded mini-dump truck. After negotiation, the amount was lowered to PHP5,000.00,” Caramat said in a statement Monday.

Tering-Tering was arrested by the joint operatives of Monitoring Enforcement Group (IMEG) Mindanao Field Unit (MFU) of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Cabadbaran City Police Station, and the 2nd Agusan del Norte Provincial Mobile Force Company.

Caramat said the suspect was caught red-handed receiving the PHP2,000 marked money from an agent inside the HPGT office.

“We do not tolerate any wrongdoings of our personnel committed by either our commissioned or non-commissioned officers to advance their personal interest. Any PNP personnel involved in crimes and illegal activities shall be penalized based on the provisions of the law,” Caramat said.

The suspect is now temporarily placed under the custody of Cabadbaran City Police Station for documentation and the filing of appropriate criminal charges. (PNA)
