MANILA – The Department of Justice (DOJ) will work with the Philippine National Police (PNP) in poring over 61 cases of law enforcers allegedly liable for violations during anti-illegal drugs operations.

The investigation deal was agreed upon after a meeting between Secretary Menardo Guevarra and PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar on Friday at the DOJ.

"The PNP will allow the DOJ access to records of 61 cases involving hundreds of PNP personnel nationwide where the Internal Affairs Services found administrative or criminal liabilities on the part of law enforcement agents," Guevarra told reporters on Monday.

Guevarra said discussions took up two areas of immediate concern — active collaboration in the review of illegal drug operations where deaths occurred and in the investigation of alleged extra judicial killings and related cases.

“Gen. Eleazar expressed his sincere intention to cooperate with the DOJ in order to remove or discipline wrongdoers among the ranks of the police and thereby uplift the image of the PNP as protectors of the people,” Guevarra said.

The DOJ and the PNP will execute a formal memorandum on the agreement, he added. (PNA)
