GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Over 82,000 individuals in Region 12 (Soccsksargen) who are included in the priority list have been vaccinated against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), the Department of Health (DOH) said.

Arjohn Gangoso, DOH-Region 12 health education and promotion officer, said Wednesday data submitted by rural health units as of May 23 showed that a total of 82,598 eligible individuals have at least received their first dose of the vaccine.

He said they mainly utilized Sinovac’s CoronaVac and AstraZeneca vaccines that were delivered by their central office.

Gangoso said some 51,030 frontline health workers or those under the A1 priority list were inoculated with their first dose while 13,338 have completed their second or booster shots.

“The coverage has been expanding since we’ve been regularly receiving additional vaccine supplies,” Gangoso told reporters.

Under the A2 category or senior citizens, some 7,830 individuals have completed their two doses of the vaccines while 27,414 were vaccinated with their first dose.

Some 4,154 persons with comorbidities or under A3 from the region’s four provinces and four cities were also inoculated with their first dose.

On Tuesday, DOH-12 facilitated the vaccination at the KCC Mall in Koronadal City of the directors and assistant directors who were eligible under the A3 category.

Josephine Leysa, Department of the Interior and Local Government-Region 12 director, said in a statement the inoculation symbolizes their support to the national government’s efforts to increase the availment of the vaccine among the eligible population.

She said they are hoping that more residents will be informed and influenced to also get vaccinated and protected against Covid-19. (PNA
