Iloilo City remains under MECQ until mid-June

ILOILO CITY- This highly urbanized city’s (HUC) modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) classification is extended until June 15, 2021 as cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) continue to climb.

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas on Tuesday signed Executive Order number 50 extending the MECQ status of Iloilo City in compliance to Resolution Number 118-A of the national Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases showing the new quarantine classification of provinces and cities on May 31.

In the EO, the observance of the curfew hours from 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. is extended.

The city-wide border control that restricts entry and exit points to and from the city except for purposes of work, medical needs, accessing government services, transport of goods and/or construction materials, humanitarian purposes also continues.

Locally stranded individuals (LSIs), returning overseas Filipino workers and Authorized Persons Outside of their Residence (APORs) are also allowed to travel while the vulnerable sector must stay home except when obtaining for their essential needs.

The sale and public consumption of alcoholic drinks are prohibited.

All non-essential establishments remain closed while those allowed to operate are encouraged to adopt flexible work arrangements.

Further, face to face or in-person classes are suspended

The order mandates that those with recent travel history outside of the city and exhibit symptoms upon returning must observe strict isolation, and submit to the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test.

Home quarantine is now allowed for Covid-19 positive provided that it allows isolation from other family members and subject to an inspection of the barangay health emergency response teams (BHERTs).

The order also extends the travel moratorium from Iloilo City to Negros Occidental and vice-versa.

The city was placed under MECQ upon the request of the local government on May 23-31, 2021.

Meantime, in an advisory, Treñas has appealed anew for residents of this metropolis to stay at home as cases continue to rise.

“I am again appealing to all Ilonggos to please stay at home. Please postpone whatever you need to do in the meantime. The cases continue to go up,” he said.

On May 31, the city has recorded 52 new local cases, one returning overseas Filipino worker (ROFW) and one authorized person outside of residence (APOR).

As of noontime of June 1, the city has 63 new confirmed cases as per report of the City Health Office -City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CHO-CESU) based on the tests being conducted by the Uswag Molecular Laboratory.

"Our hospitals are so full, some hotels are being used by the hospitals for mild and asymptomatic patients duly supervised by their doctors. The cases are continuously going up,” he added.

As per Regional Case Bulletin number 431 released by the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH WV CHD) on Tuesday, the city has 1,629 active cases out of its 7, 493 cumulative cases as of May 31.

It has 205 deaths and the rest are recoveries. (PNA)
