MANILA – For three straight days, Luzon will be experiencing rotational brownouts as red alert status is still raised over the Luzon grid on Wednesday.

According to Department of Energy’s (DOE) grid status update, Luzon grid will be on red alert between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. and 11 p.m., while yellow alert will be raised from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. to midnight.

“The DOE presented the supply and demand situation, with the total projected available capacity today at 11,260 megawatts (MW), relative to the projected system peak demand at 11,515 MW which is expected to occur between 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.,” DOE said.

It added that around 716 MW will be the highest possible level of load that will be dropped from the system on Wednesday (June 2).

There are no additional power plants that went offline Wednesday, DOE said, but the Sual Coal-Fired Power Plant Unit 2 is expected to be back to the grid by 4:30 p.m.

The 647-MW Sual power plant was on outage since May 16 as it corrected the problem at the pressure control valve of the facility’s gland steam.

Meanwhile, as of 11:08 a.m., the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) has not yet started the Manual Load Dropping (MLD).
