BAGUIO CITY – At least 344 policemen in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) who render medical service and assigned at the triage or contact tracing duties have received their coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccine shots.
Col. Geraldine Adanglao, chief of the medical, dental unit (MDU)-Cordillera, during the Regional Law Enforcement Coordinating Council (RLECC) meeting on Thursday, said there are 10,189 uniformed personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) who are serving the region.
“Of the total strength, 344 have received their first dose while 292 have completed their two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine,” she said.
Adanglao said those who were jabbed are under the category A1 or health worker, working at the regional PNP hospital in Camp Dangwa, and those assigned to perform duties directly related to the fight against Covid-19.
The number includes those assigned with the regional support units like the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), Internal Affairs Service (IAS) and the Highway Patrol Group (HPG).
She said they have completed the mandatory registration of all policemen who are required to also register with their respective local government units (LGU) under the A4 category.
“Their registration will allow their inclusion in the allocation (for vaccination) of the LGUs,” Adanglao said.
While vaccination is voluntary, Adanglao said that survey conducted by the PNP in the early part of the year shows that majority of the policemen expressed their desire to get the jab.
There were, however, about a hundred who expressed preference for a specific vaccine brand.
“Pero noong dumating na ang vaccine pumayag na din kahit hindi yung gusto ng tao. Tulad ko, gusto ko sana Pfizer pero nagpa vaccine na ako nung ang unang dumating ay Sinovac at pwede na sa amin dito sa hospital (when the vaccine arrived, the people already agreed to receive whatever is available. Like me, I prefer Pfizer but when it was Sinovac that first arrived, I got the vaccine when we were scheduled here in the hospital),” she said.
In the region, a total of 1,291 policemen were recorded to have contracted the virus with 62 cases still active while two unfortunately passed away. (PNA)
