Soldier killed in Agusan Norte clash with NPA guerillas

BUTUAN CITY – A government soldier was killed in an encounter with New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Palo 11, Poblacion 2, Santiago, Agusan del Norte on June 10.

A report from the Santiago Municipal Police Office said Army soldiers engaged NPA rebels in a 20-minute firefight at about 4:30 p.m.

“The 29IB troopers were conducting a security patrol in the area when they engaged around six NPA rebels belonging to Sentro de Grabidad (SDG) 16, Guerrilla Front (GF) 16, North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC) of the NPA,” the report said.

The fatality was identified as Private First Class Giory A. Sag-od.

The rebels withdrew and fled towards the northwest portion of Palo 11.

Heavy bloodstains were reportedly discovered by the pursuing troops along the route of the retreating NPA rebels.

The 29IB troopers are still conducting pursuit operations in the area. (PNA)
