DUMAGUETE CITY – A total of 33,975 individuals in Negros Oriental have been vaccinated against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Liland Estacion, during a virtual press briefing, said this is the latest figure as of June 11.

The vaccines administered were Sinovac’s CoronaVac and AstraZeneca, for front-liners, health workers, senior citizens and other essential workers, she said.

Of the total, 23,167 received the first dose while 10,808 individuals were also administered their second dose, she added.

Estacion also said the province recorded 398 recoveries and 435 new Covid-19 cases based on results from Cebu City and Negros Oriental testing laboratories from June 8-10.

Meanwhile, minors and other individuals found drinking outside of their homes and in public places here will be sanctioned and charged with violations of health protocols.

City Executive Assistant for Security Concerns, retired police general Rey Lyndon Lawas, in an interview Friday, said they have warned these people against their habit that could cause spread of Covid-19.

“Drinking liquor in public, even if it is just outside your home, and by the roadside, is already a violation,” he said in mixed English and Cebuano.

Health marshals, headed by Lawas and City Health Officer Dr. Maria Sarah Talla, are conducting regular patrols around the city to ensure the strict enforcement of protocols by establishments, institutions, private entities, and the general public as Covid-19 cases in this city continue to spike.

Created by Mayor Antonio Remollo, who chairs the city’s Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (CIATF-EID), the health marshals are composed of personnel from the City Health Office, the Philippine National Police, the Traffic Management Office, the Special Enforcement Unit, the Department of Trade and Industry, and the Bureau of Fire Protection.

As of Friday, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Negros Oriental is 6,077, broken down into 4,129 recoveries, 1,837 active infections, and 111 mortalities. (PNA)
