COTABATO CITY – Search and rescue teams have found some 20 kilometers away in another town the remains of a missing farmer who was swept recently by rampaging waters from an overflowing Kabacan River in President Roxas, North Cotabato due to torrential rains.

Arnulfo Villaruz, North Cotabato Provincial Disaster Risk and Reduction Management (PDRRM) officer, said the remains of farmer Renante Ambahan were found floating by residents at a tributary of the river in the adjacent town of Matalam on Tuesday morning.

“The farmer’s bloated remains were found by villagers at Barangay Salvacion of Matalam town past 8 a.m.,” he said.

On June 11, the farmer attempted to cross the turbulent waters of Kabacan River in Barangay Tuael of President Roxas town amid a heavy downpour but lost his balance and was swept away by the strong current.

Search and rescue teams have been searching for Ambahan since. Kabacan River frequently overflows during inclement weather conditions.

It traverses the towns of Kabacan, Magpet, President Roxas, Carmen, and Matalam towards the larger Pulangi River winding between the border of North Cotabato and Bukidnon provinces. Ambahan’s remains were brought to his family in Tuael village. (PNA)
