MANILA – A total of 2,417 persons were charged with violation of health protocols amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic from June 7 to 13, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said Monday night.

In a pre-recorded Cabinet meeting with President Rodrigo R. Duterte, Año said these are among a total of 67,629 violators of health protocols who were apprehended during the past week.

Out of this number, 51,607 were accosted for not wearing face masks, 426 for mass gatherings, and 15,596 for breach of physical distancing rules.

Año also said the village chiefs of MatabungKay in Lian, Batangas, and Kasambagan in Cebu City are under investigation over reports of mass gatherings.

Meanwhile, a complaint for violation of Republic Act 11332 or the Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act was filed against the chairperson of Barangay San Mariano in Sta. Marcela, Apayao over the holding of mass gathering for a wedding.

Of the violations reported last week, we have updates on the ongoing progress of complaints filed against barangay officials in Barangay Matictic, Norzagaray, Bulacan; Barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City; Barangay 171 of Caloocan City; Barangay San Jose, Navotas City; and Barangays 181 and 182 of Tondo, Manila),” Año said.

He noted that 27,895 quarantine facilities are available for Covid-19 patients nationwide.

We would like to remind that in order for us to back what we call normal, all our countrymen must adhere to health standards and protocols. Our authorities will enforce all laws and ordinances nationwide and the proper implementation of the Prevent-Detect-Isolate-Treat-Reintegrate strategy of our LGUs and the continuous and rapid vaccination. These are the keys for us to return to normal life and open our economy completely),” he said.

Meanwhile, he said 1,095 anti-illegal drug operations were conducted by the police from June 6 to 13.

In these operations, Año said 32 drug personalities surrendered, 1,576 were arrested while 12 were killed.

These operations resulted in the confiscation of 172,387.32 grams of shabu and 256,301.57 grams of marijuana worth PHP1,201,589,964.40.

On Sunday, joint police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency teams seized PHP1 billion worth of shabu in separate operations in Parañaque City and Imus, Cavite. (PNA)
