TACLOBAN CITY – The Eastern Visayas Regional Development Council (RDC) has endorsed 13 major programs and projects for funding support in 2022, the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) reported on Wednesday.

The RDC advisory committee endorsed these programs and projects in a recent virtual meeting with members of the House of Representatives in Eastern Visayas, NEDA Regional Director Bonifacio Uy said in a phone interview.

These projects are the completion of the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center in Tacloban City; upgrading of the Schistosomiasis Control and Research Hospital in Palo, Leyte; upgrading of Samar Provincial Hospital in Catbalogan City, Samar; and construction of the outpatient department of Southern Leyte Provincial Hospital in Maasin City, Southern Leyte.

Others are airport infrastructure development projects; port development projects; provincial bridges for economic development; WiFi projects; flood management programs; geohazard operations center and laboratory; Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan program pillar 3; aquaculture post-harvest and marketing program; and Special Areas for Agricultural Development.

Uy has no data on the cost of projects.

“We presented these 13 priority programs and projects of the region for 2022 to the congresspersons to solicit their support in securing funding for the said projects. These projects are crucial to the recovery of the region from the coronavirus pandemic,” Uy said.

The RDC advisory committee acts as an advisory body to the region’s highest policy-making body, tasked to advise, assist, and support the council in discharging its functions.

The committee is composed of members of the RDC Executive Committee and lawmakers from the region. (PNA)
