SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – An official of a multi-purpose cooperative in Hamtic, Antique is advising beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) to save a portion of their cash grant for emergency use.

During the pilot episode of the Family Development Session (FDS) on Air over DYKA on Wednesday, Hamtic Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MPC) general manager Sony Dolendo said that it is important for the province’s 28,688 beneficiaries to save so they would have money to use in case of emergency and even for the repair and maintenance of their houses.

“Before you spend your money, always consider your priority needs,” she said, adding that they would feel more secure if they have savings.

One way to save their money is by joining a cooperative where members not only earn interest but also dividends. “You could also withdraw your savings with the cooperative anytime,” she explained.

Meanwhile, one of the program hosts, Antique Provincial Link Jeffrey Gabucay, said there are various ways of saving money; it could be through the traditional piggy bank or in the bank.

“We used to have piggy banks in our homes, but if we save through a cooperative or bank it is more advantageous because our money is earning interest,” Gabucay said.

Gabucay said that the topic aimed to educate 4Ps members on the importance of savings.

Every two months, a household with three senior high school children receives PHP6,900, and PHP5,700 for a household that has three children enrolled in Junior High and grade schools. (PNA)
