MANILA – The Manila Mega Covid-19 Field Hospital begins its operation Friday, a day after its launch as the city celebrated its 450th anniversary of the Araw ng Maynila.

Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso said the hospital, which can accommodate even non-Manila residents, is expected to help decongest the city’s six district hospitals.

“Pinasinayaan po natin ngayong araw ang Manila Covid-19 Field Hospital sa Burnham Green ng Rizal Park. Mayroon po itong 344 bed capacity na kayang kumalinga sa mild to moderate Covid-19 patients (We inaugurated the Manila Covid-19 Field Hospital at the Burnham Green in Rizal Park. It has a 344 beds that can cater to mild and moderate Covid-19 patients),” Domagoso said.

During the inauguration, Domagoso thanked the workers who built the field hospital in just 52 days, beating the 60-day deadline.

“Let me stress, take this opportunity, I would like to thank 362 construction workers, Filipino construction workers who did this day and night,” he said.

He also thanked the national government for ensuring that the hospital is done soon.

“Thank you very much po sa lahat ng bumubuo sa city government, sa national government, sa mga manggagawa na nagsumikap na matapos ang pagtatayo nito sa loob ng 52 days, at sa medical front-liners na handang maglaan ng kanilang husay upang makapaghatid ng dekalidad na serbisyong medikal sa ating mga kababayan (to the city government, national government, to all the workers who strived to build this facility in 52 days, and to the medical front-liners who are already ready to bring quality medical service to all our people),” Domagoso said.
