BUTUAN CITY – A top priority suspect engaged in the illegal drug trade in the Caraga region was apprehended in a buy-bust operation conducted in Barangay Taligaman here on Wednesday evening.

In a press statement Friday, Police Regional Office (PRO) 13 (Caraga) Director, Brig. Gen. Romeo M. Caragamat Jr., identified the arrested suspect as Jalil C. Mamarangcas, 25, a resident of Barangay Taglatawan, Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur.

“Mamarangcas is listed as a top priority target at (the) regional level (PRO-13) and classified as a high-value individual engaged in the sale and use of shabu,” Caramat said.

The suspect was arrested by joint elements of the Regional Intelligence Division of PRO-13, Butuan City Police Office (BCPO), and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 13.

Confiscated were 5 grams of suspected shabu valued at PHP59,000, and two large heat-sealed sachets containing 40 grams of shabu with a value of PHP472,000.

Authorities also seized from the suspect the PHP15,000 marked money used by the poseur-buyer during the buy-bust.

“He did not resist when busted by our operatives. The operation was given a green light when the police acting as poseur-buyer received the 5 grams of shabu from the suspect,” Caramat said.

He cited the support of some individuals who provided vital information that led to the arrest of the suspect.

“The successful operation stemmed from the report confirming that the suspect would be carrying a significant amount of illegal drugs. This is part of our efforts to break the backbone of drug distribution in the region,” Caramat said.

The suspect is under the custody of the BCPO awaiting the filing of violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 charges. (PNA)
