DUMAGUETE CITY – City officials are eyeing the possibility of requiring the vaccination of motorcab-for-hire (MCH ) drivers against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) as a requisite in the issuance of a franchise to operate units.
This was one of the salient points discussed Tuesday during a meeting between Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo, the Committee on Transportation and Traffic, and other key city officials to formulate guidelines of an ordinance granting MCH franchises to operators from outside of Dumaguete, a media release on Wednesday said.
Vice Mayor Karissa Tolentino said there are inquiries on how to implement the ordinance.
Also discussed was the recommendation for a color-coding scheme per municipality of the Motorized Tricycle Operation (MTOP) Form issued to outsiders applying for a franchise, and uniformed stickers for those granted dual franchises.
Likewise in the agenda was the assignment of franchises to drivers from other municipalities to be taken from those that were revoked, expired, not renewed, or from owners with more than five franchises.
This way, the number of franchises will remain at 2,500, instead of adding 200 more for the neighboring towns of Sibulan (100), Bacong (50), and Valencia (50).
Also present during the meeting were Councilor Michael Bandal, Liga ng mga Barangay president Dionie Amores, city legal officer Manuel Arbon and sectoral desk officer Albert Aquino. (PNA)
