TACLOBAN CITY – Eastern Visayas has received the second shipment of Moderna's Covid-19 vaccines purchased by the central government.

The Department of Health (DOH) reported on Tuesday that 5,400 doses of US-made vaccines arrived at the Tacloban Airport on Monday, bringing the total number of Moderna vaccines in the region to 21,640.

“This latest shipment of vaccine is expected to boost the region's rollout at this critical point where there is a need to aggressively conduct and maintain unhampered vaccination activities in the race to contain the spread of the highly transmissible Covid-19 Delta variant,” the DOH said in a statement sent to reporters.

The 5,400 doses of vaccines will be allocated for Tacloban as the city continues to inoculate its priority groups such as health workers, senior citizens, and those with comorbidities.

The region has already received more than 900,000 doses of vaccines since it started its vaccination last March of this year.

As of Aug. 6, the region’s 384 vaccination sites have already administered 654,032 doses of Covid-19 vaccines.

The vaccination program has already covered 100 percent frontline health workers, 31 percent of senior citizens, 41.9 percent of adults with comorbidities, and 9.1 percent of economic frontliners.

The health department reminded the public to coordinate with their local government for vaccine registration and get vaccinated, following the government’s prioritization framework, to get maximum protection against the severe form of coronavirus.

As of Aug. 10, the region has already recorded 37,498 confirmed Covid-19 cases, including 35,710 recoveries, and 429 deaths. This brings the total active cases to 1,359, according to DOH. (PNA)
