SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – A stricter border control is now being observed in Antique until Aug. 30 to limit the movement of people as the province reported the highest number of cases of Delta variant of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Western Visayas.

Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao, during a virtual press conference Wednesday, said as of Aug. 10, the province has 22 local cases of the highly transmissible variant.

To curb the spread of infection, Antiqueños with no essential transaction outside will have to stay at home in the next two weeks based on the recommendation of the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development 6 (DOH WV CHD).

“Those who have to go outside of their homes have to seek travel pass that will be issued to them,” Cadiao said.

The pass will be issued by the village chairperson for inter-barangay transactions, the municipal mayor for those going out of their towns, and the office of the governor for those who will travel outside of Antique.

The pass will be presented at the borders control points.

The implementation of the border control was already included in Executive Order (EO) 117 issued by the governor on July 31 but Cadiao will be issuing a new EO reiterating strict observance that will include the travel pass requirement.

Meantime, inbound travelers to Antique have to present their letter of coordination with their local government unit of destination.

She added the Antiqueños should temporarily avoid the holding of family gatherings while wakes will only be allowed for five days to avoid being a super spreader.

“Although we are yet on general community quarantine (GCQ), but what I am asking from the people is that they should act as if we are under the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) where they strictly practice the minimum health protocols such as wearing of face masks,” she said. (PNA)
