Pinoy pug Plania to fight Ramos in Florida Aug. 20

DAVAO CITY – Super bantamweight champion Mike “Magic” Plania of General Santos City will fight Jonathan Lecona “Zurdo” Ramos of Mexico at the Hilton Miami Airport Blue Lagoon in the US state of Florida on Aug. 20.

“I’m focused on this fight. I don’t have to take it for granted,” said the 24-year-old Plania (25W-1L-0D, 12 KOs) in a statement Saturday, who is managed both by Osmiri Fernandez of Miami and Jim Claude Mananguil of General Santos City.

Plania recently scored a unanimous decision win against Emmanuel Mogawa last April 30 at Sanman Gym in General Santos City.

The 35-year-old Ramos (18W-31L-5D, 6KOs), on the other hand, recently lost to Emanuel Rivera Nieves by a unanimous decision last July 16, 2021 in Atlanta. Ramos also lost two earlier two fights already in 2021.

He was destroyed physically by Jayvon Garnett last Feb. 20 in Miami before he was knocked out by Donald Smith in the first round last May 8 in Philadelphia.

Ramos tasted his last win against Armando Frausto by a split decision at Humble Civic Center in Texas last November 2018.
