MANILA  The Pasig City government strongly advised its residents against having a polymer polyvinyl chloride (PVC) version of the vaccination card instead of just laminating it.

In an online advisory on Tuesday, the local government unit (LGU) said entrepreneurs of such businesses will inadvertently gain access to the holder’s personal details and the PasigPass QR (quick response) code, which is unique for every resident.

The city government said lamination would suffice to avoid crumpling or damaging the card.

"PVC copy of your vaccination card is not a replacement of the city government-issued vaccination card," the LGU advisory read.

Department of the Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya earlier discouraged fully vaccinated individuals to have PVC vaccination cards.

Malaya said it is unsafe and prone to the disclosure of confidential information to the PVC makers.

“Sending a soft copy of vaccination cards to a third party is like setting yourself up for data privacy issues," he said in an earlier interview. (PNA)
