CEBU CITY – The New Siquijor Airport will be unveiled on Thursday, marking a new milestone in the government’s “Build, Build, Build” program.

The provincial government of Siquijor announced on Wednesday that Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade will be leading the airport inauguration in the famous tourist island.

“As part of our commitment to prepare our island for its eventual recovery, the New Siquijor Airport will be opening soon,” the provincial government said in a statement.

The modernization of the Siquijor Airport, which includes the upgrade of its passenger terminal building, runway, powerhouse, and vehicular parking area, will enhance the island's connectivity and mobility across the country.

The modernization is also projected to “boost not only the province's tourism industry but also strengthen its economic growth,” it said.

It seeks to improve the infrastructure development in Siquijor, which is essential in its economic success moving forward.

The airport modernization is also expected to create jobs and boost the tourism industry in the island.

“See the back-to-back inaugurations of the completed development projects of our Siquijor Airport and Seaport,” Tugade said on his official Facebook page on Wednesday, posting a teaser video of the modern Siquijor airport. (PNA)
