Region 2 detects new Delta variant cases

TUGUEGARAO CITY – Four provinces in Region 2 (Cagayan Valley) have detected 32 new cases of the Delta variant, the highly contagious SARS-CoV-2 virus strains, according to the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit of the Department of Health on Monday.

The new cases were from samples tested on Aug. 25 and 26.

Thirty have recovered while two others died -- one from Alicia, Isabela and one from Cabarroguis, Quirino.

Dr. Rio Magpantay, Cagayan Valley regional health director, told the Philippine News Agency on Monday that contact tracing is ongoing.

Of the total, 10 were recorded in Cagayan while 15 cases were listed in Isabela -- 14 local cases and one overseas Filipino worker (OFW).

There were also five in Nueva Vizcaya and two in Quirino.

Batanes remained Delta variant-free.

In Isabela, five cases were listed in Santiago City while there were two cases each in Aurora, Jones, and San Mateo.

Confirmed with one case each were Roxas, Tumauini, Alicia, and City of Ilagan, where the OFW hails.

In Cagayan, there are seven cases in Tuguegarao City, Allacapan has two cases, and Tuao has one.

In Nueva Vizcaya, Bagabag has two cases while Quezon, Bambang, and Dupax Del Norte recorded a case each.

Cabarroguis town in Quirino has two cases.

Meanwhile, city and village officials here will finish Monday a two-day cleanup drive and disinfection.

Mayor Jefferson Soriano said on Monday the activity was done in each household.

On Sunday, 81 new Covid-19 cases -- four of them re-exposed -– padded the city's active infection tally to 1,407. (PNA)
