DAVAO CITY – A total of 578,608 residents and workers have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine here as of August 29, the Davao City Vaccination Cluster reported on Tuesday.
Data posted on the Davao City Facebook page also showed 342,741 have acquired full protection from among the five priority groups – medical workers, senior citizens, adults with comorbidities, economic front-liners, and indigents.
The city government is targeting to vaccinate 1.2 million, or 70 percent of its total population.
“We already reiterated our instruction to the vaccine cluster to ramp up the vaccination drive so that we will finish the first doses before the end of this year and all we have to think about is to remind others to take their second doses. We will also look for those who have not taken the first dose yet,” Mayor Sara Duterte said in an earlier interview.
Delta variant cases
In Davao Occidental, nine patients confirmed with the Delta variant have been re-quarantined, said Prince Raymond Paraiso, the province’s Health Education Promotion officer.
Paraiso said all nine cases are from Sta. Maria town, which is now under enhanced community quarantine on top of six villages that have been locked down.
They are scheduled for re-swabbing until Sept. 2.
“We also started contact tracing up to the third-degree contacts,” Paraiso told the Philippine News Agency.
Even before the confirmation by the Department of Health of Delta variant cases in the province, Paraiso said they were already prepared.
Aside from Sta. Maria, the towns of Malita, Don Marcelino, and Jose Abad Santos declared a “no-Sunday movement”. (PNA)
