Voter registration in MECQ zones resumes Sept. 6: Comelec

MANILA – Voter registration activities in areas under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) will resume next week, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced Wednesday.

“Comelec en banc just now approves the conduct of registration, from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., in areas under MECQ, starting September 6, 2021,” Comelec spokesperson Jimenez said in a Viber message to reporters.

He added that satellite registration hubs in malls will also accept registrants.

“In-mall voter registration will be allowed,” Jimenez said.

Aside from, National Capital Region (NCR), the provinces of Bataan, Laguna Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, Iloilo, Aklan and the cities of Lucena, Iloilo, Lapu-Lapu, Cebu, Mandaue, and Cagayan de Oro are also under MECQ until September 7 due to the rising cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Robinsons Malls, Ayala Malls, and SM Malls nationwide are also accepting applications from registrants.

The nationwide voter registration for the May 2022 elections is scheduled to end on September 30. (PNA)
