MANILA – The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has given 1,732,158 free rides to vaccinated passengers of its railway systems since Aug. 3.

In a Facebook post on Monday, the DOTr said that as of Sept. 5, more than 1.7 million free rides have been provided so far by the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3), Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2), and Philippine National Railways to vaccinated authorized persons outside of residence (APORs).

LRT-1 did not join the free ride program but had short-term offers like free stored-value cards for a limited number of passengers.

Free rides will be given until Tuesday, the last day of the modified enhanced community quarantine status in the National Capital Region.

The DOTr has yet to decide on an extension as Metro Manila has been downgraded to general community quarantine from Sept. 8 to 30.

Passengers are required to show their vaccination cards to prove they have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine and an identification card that certifies their APOR status. (PNA)
