Legazpi airport flights canceled due to 'Jolina'

LEGAZPI CITY – Authorities canceled flights at the Legazpi Domestic Airport on Tuesday due to Typhoon Jolina which has made landfall in Dimasalang town in Masbate, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Bicol said.

In an update, OCD-5 spokesperson Gremil Alexis Nas said at least four Philippine Airlines flights (Manila-Legazpi-Manila) were canceled due to bad weather in Albay.

Flights would resume once the weather condition improves in the coming days, he added.

In a report, the OCD said the power supply was cut off in Masbate province on Monday due to technical problems experienced by the Masbate Electric Cooperative (Maselco).

Meanwhile, the Philippine Ports Authority said 505 travelers and 1,677 rolling cargoes bound for areas in the Visayas and Mindanao remain stranded at the Matnog port in Sorsogon.

At least 20 sea vessels took shelter in the ports of Albay, Virac, and Sorsogon.

The Philippine National Police, meanwhile, said 170 travelers in 58 trucks and nine cars were stranded along the Maharlika Highway in Matnog, Sorsogon.

Classes were suspended in the provinces of Albay, Camarines Sur, Naga City, Masbate, and in the towns of Pilar and Castilla in Sorsogon.

Work in government offices were suspended in Albay, Camarines Sur including Naga City, Masbate, and in Pilar and Castilla towns in Sorsogon. (PNA)
