MANILA – Vaccinated passengers will continue to enjoy the free rides at the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3), the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) and the Philippine National Railways (PNR) after the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) in the National Capital Region has been extended.

In a Facebook post, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said the free ride program has been extended until the end of MECQ on Sept. 15.

“Vaccinated authorized persons outside of residence (APORs) who have received either their first or second dose of vaccine shall present their certificate of APOR status to avail the program,” the DOTr said.

The free ride program is only available at certain times -- at MRT-3 from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; at LRT-2 from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m., 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.; and at PNR from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and 7 p.m. onwards.

The free ride program for vaccinated APORs is one way to encourage Covid-19 vaccinations among the public. It also helps shoulder commuter expenses amid the pandemic. (PNA)
