Zambo Sur Covid-19 cases breach 2K-mark

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The provincial government of Zamboanga del Sur on Wednesday urged its residents to comply with the minimum health protocols to prevent further spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in the province.

Zamboanga del Sur Gov. Victor Yu made the call as 176 new infections were reported on Tuesday bringing the total active cases to 2,029 based on the report of the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO).

The IPHO has also recorded 55 new recoveries on the same day.

Yu, who recovered from Covid-19 infection after being tested positive on August 31, said on the Facebook page of the provincial government that Dr. Anatalio Cagampang Jr., IPHO and Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center chief, is in isolation for contracting the virus.

Yu told the Zambosurians to properly wear the face mask and face shield when going out of their residence and to always observe proper hygiene.

He noted that Pagadian City, the capital of the province, has the highest active cases of Covid-19 at 780.

The Department of Health data showed that Zamboanga del Sur has a total of 8,374 confirmed cases with 6,113 recoveries, 2,011 active cases, and 250 deaths as of September 6.

Yu said the cases of Covid-19 can be contained with the full cooperation of the public. (PNA)
