MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday renewed its call to motorists to behave and spare roads from dangerous acts that may put their lives and others at risk.
PNP chief, Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, made the statement following an incident in Zamboanga City where three motorcycle riders engaged in a dangerous drag race while traversing the road on September 4.
According to the PNP chief, the riders have been identified and sanctioned.
Reports reaching Eleazar’s office said the licenses of riders, identified as Anton Jan Refran Loon, Harson Dale Feliciano Natividad, and Juniesher Ismun Bonifacio, have been confiscated over their alleged violation of Republic Act 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
“Nang dahil sa tulong na ipinaabot ng ating mga kababayan sa pamamagitan ng pagsumbong sa kanilang PNP, natukoy na at naparusahan ang tatlong kamote riders sa Zamboanga City na naglagay sa alanganin ng buhay at kaligtasan ng ating mga kababayan sa kanilang lugar (Due to the infromation coming from the concerned citizens reported to their PNP, three riders in Zamboanga City have been identified and punished who put the lives and safety of the people in danger in their area),” Eleazar said in a statement.
The riders are also facing a three-month driving suspension. Authorities, however, have yet to determine if their licenses would be revoked or not.
“Magsilbing aral sana ito sa ating mga motorista na ginawa ang ating mga lansangan para sa mabilis at maginhawang transportasyon ng ating mga kababayan at hindi lugar para sa anumang klase ng palabas at kayabangan (May this serve as a lesson to our motorists that our streets have been made for the fast and convenient transportation of our countrymen and not a place for any kind of show of arrogance),” he added.
Meanwhile, Eleazar urged the public to report misbehaving riders and drivers to law enforcers.
Earlier this month, two police officers in Zambales province have been penalized for performing motorcycle stunts at a national road, which was caught in a viral video.
“I also hope that this, along with the incident in Zambales involving our two personnel who were also sanctioned, would further encourage our kababayan to report to the police activities that endanger the lives of our people on the road. Nasa kamay ninyo ang inyong kaligtasan sa pamamagitan ng pagsumbong sa amin ng mga ganitong uri ng gawain at tinitiyak namin ang agarang aksyon sa inyong mga reklamo (Your safety is in your hands by reporting these types of activities to us and we ensure immediate action on your complaints),” he said.
The PNP maintains an E-Sumbong platform where the public can lodge their complaints. (PNA)
