AGOO, La Union – The provincial government of La Union placed this town under general community quarantine (GCQ) from September 24 to 30 from its current modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) status as the increase in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infection rate here stabilizes.
In Executive Order (EO) No. 46 issued on Thursday, Governor Francisco Emmanuel Ortega III said though there was a rise in the number of active cases in the province due to higher infection rates in the local government units, a minimal increase was recorded in the town during the MECQ.
“With an average daily attack rate of 26.12 from September 16-21 and -50.93 percent growth rate from the same period which is lower in comparison to the 98.17 percent two-week growth rate from September 1-15,” he said.
As of September 20, the province recorded 2,203 active cases, with the Agoo accounting for 252 or 11.43 percent of the active cases.
Ortega said Mayor Stephanie Ann Eriguel requested to lower the community quarantine to GCQ to resume economic activity in the town.
He ordered the mayor and the local police to ensure compliance with the Operational Guidelines on the Application of the Zoning Containment Strategy in the Localization of the National Action Plan against Covid-19 Response and other applicable guidelines during the GCQ.
These include but are not limited to stringent limitations on movement and transportation of people, the establishment of checkpoints, the observance of the minimum health protocols, closing of non-essential establishments, and strict regulation of operating industries, the curfews, and the presence of uniformed personnel to enforce protocols.
