MANILA – Twelve out of 18 Carmelite nuns in a monastery in Rizal province have tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
In a statement dated September 23, the cases at the Tanay Carmelite Monastery are mild.
The facility asked for prayers from the public.
“We are 18 Sisters in the monastery and 12 Sisters were tested positive of Covid,” the statement read. “At present, we can be considered as mild cases and symptomatic. Your prayers will be very much appreciated.”
All but one of the monastery nuns are fully vaccinated.
One of them is on oral chemotherapy and cannot be administered with the Covid-19 vaccine.
At the same time, the Carmelite nuns said they are offering prayers for everyone sick with Covid-19 and those who are struggling from the pandemic.
“Let us take courage because God is with us. What He wills will always be the best and what He allows will always turn to the best because He is all love and mercy and all His actions are all love and mercy,” the Carmelites added.
In Quezon City, the death toll at the Religious of the Virgin Mary convent has climbed to nine since a Covid-19 outbreak started last week.
All fatalities were bedridden and aged between 80 and 90.
Among the convent’s 62 infected nuns, two have recovered, 38 are still experiencing mild or moderate symptoms, and 13 are severe cases. (PNA)
