CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – Nearly 2,700 individuals in Central Luzon were caught over the weekend for violating health and safety protocols against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) set by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).

Brig. Gen. Valeriano T. de Leon, director of the Police Regional Office-3 (Central Luzon), said a total of 2,690 violators were recorded regionwide from September 25-26.

De Leon called on the public to always observe the minimum health standards to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

The region reported 2,239 new cases of Covid-19 based on the regional case bulletin released on Monday by the Central Luzon Center for Health Development.

De Leon said 1,897 people were caught for the improper wearing of or not wearing face masks, and 507 for not wearing face shields.

On the other hand, 259 were warned for not observing safe physical distancing and 27 were apprehended due to mass gatherings.

"Time and again, I call on the public to always observe the minimum health standards to prevent the spread of Covid-19 as the epidemic risk in Central Luzon is still categorized as moderate and the number of cases continues to rise," de Leon said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the total number of patients who recovered from Covid-19 in Central Luzon has reached 221, 542 since the start of the pandemic last year.

The total recoveries represent 90 percent of the 246,238 confirmed infections in the region.

The region’s active cases stand at 19,687 which is eight percent of the total confirmed cases.

The total number of those who died of Covid-19 in the region is 5,009 which is two percent of the total caseload. (PNA)
