MANILA – A total of 5,403,219 free rides have so far been given to health care workers and other authorized persons outside of residence (APOR) across the country through the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board’s (LTFRB) “Libreng Sakay (Free Ride) Phase II”.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, the LTFRB said the total was tallied on Monday and included the National Capital Region, and Regions 1 (Ilocos), 2 (Cagayan Valley), 3 (Central Luzon), 4-A (Calabarzon), 4-B (Mimaropa), 5 (Bicol), 6 (Western Visayas), 7 (Central Visayas), 8 (Eastern Visayas), 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula), 10 (Northern Mindanao), 11 (Davao region), 12 (Soccsksargen), Caraga, and the Cordillera region.
“Lubos ang pasasalamat ng Department of Transportation (DOTr) at LTFRB sa malasakit at serbisyo na inihahatid ng mga operator at driver para sa ating mga commuter (The DOTr and LTFRB are immensely grateful to the care and service given by operators and drivers to our commuters),” the LTFRB said.
The free ride program is funded under the LTFRB’s Service Contracting Program that provides member drivers and operators of public utility vehicles with incentives based on the number of trips they have completed every week.
“Naniniwala si (Transportation) Secretary (Arthur) Tugade na malaking tulong ang dagdag na kita ng mga drayber, gayundin ang pamasaheng matitipid ng mga commuter upang matustusan ang kanilang pang-araw-araw na pangangailangan (Secretary Tugade believes that the extra income is a big help to our drivers and commuters to pay for their daily needs),” the LTFRB said.
The free rides from the Libreng Sakay Phase II, it said, are in addition to the 27.9 million free rides that were provided to the public under the first phase of the program from March 30 to June 30 this year, funded under Bayanihan II. (PNA)
