MANILA – The Pasig City government continues to pursue infrastructure projects despite the challenges posed by the pandemic.
On Tuesday, a new building of the Kalawaan Elementary School was inaugurated while road improvements and lighting installations have been completed.
Mayor Vico Sotto said putting up school buildings is part of the city's goal to produce educated citizens.
He asked his constituents to suggest a name for the newly built facility.
"We will follow the law. No building will be named after a living person. Better if we name new school buildings after outstanding alumni from the school," he said in a video message.
Sotto also reported the improvement of Kenneth Road at the boundary of Pasig's Barangay Pinagbuhatan and Taytay’s Barangay San Lorenzo Ruiz.
He said the restoration was slowed down by pandemic restrictions.
“Magiging alaala na lang natin yung kalsadang hindi patag dahil isang lane lang ang pinagawa (The road that was previously rough and bumpy, because only one lane was constructed, is now just a part of our memory)," Sotto said.
The city government also improved Mercedes Avenue in Barangay San Miguel and installed 55 LED (light-emitting diode) streetlights along Imelda Avenue, Karikitan Street in Barangay Manggahan, and St. Paul Compound Palatiw.
As part of the bike lanes project, the Barangay Kapitolyo roundabout will be renovated to enable cyclists and motorists to safely cross intersections.
Sotto said a safe and orderly Pasig would benefit even non-residents. (PNA)
