NDRRMC says agri damage due to 'Maring' now over P2B

MANILA – The damage to agriculture due to Severe Tropical Storm Maring has climbed to around PHP2.1 billion, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Monday.

In an update, the agency said agricultural damage was recorded in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Caraga Region, and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

Meanwhile, infrastructure damage was placed at around PHP1.7 billion in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Caraga Region, and CAR.

Some 7,589 houses were damaged in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Caraga Region, and CAR -- 7,268 of which are classified as partially damaged while 321 are totally damaged.

The number of affected families is placed at 158,510 which is equivalent to 626,177 persons.

Of this number, 4,069 families or 14,028 persons are classified as displaced and are sheltering in 86 evacuation centers.

At least 23 people are confirmed dead due to the storm, along with two injured and 16 missing.

Meanwhile, undergoing verification are reports on additional 17 deaths, three injured and 18 missing.

These casualties, both confirmed and undergoing validation, are from the provinces of Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Norte, Cagayan, Palawan, Benguet and Zambales. (PNA)
