DUMAGUETE CITY – The province of Negros Oriental on Tuesday recorded an additional 499 recoveries from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) even as it braces for a higher quarantine status from October 20-31.

Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Liland Estacion, in a virtual presser late Tuesday afternoon, said the province also logged 593 new positive infections covering the period from October 16-18.

She noted the province also recorded 30 deaths due to Covid-19 complications although nine of the deaths were reported late by the local government unit (LGU) concerned.

The total caseload for Negros Oriental as of October 19 is 16,397 broken down into 13,790 recoveries, 2,212 active positive infections, and 395 deaths.

Estacion, who is also the Covid-19 incident commander of the province’s Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), said Governor Roel Degamo is coming up with a new executive order in line with the province being placed under Alert Level 4 by the National Task Force Against Covid-19 (NTF).

Negros Oriental is now experiencing a “third wave” of infections, which is most likely the reason for the upgrading of the quarantine status, she said.

Estacion noted a higher number of deaths due to Covid-19 in the last few days compared to the previous months. (PNA)
