CEBU CITY – A police official on Tuesday said molding the spirituality of new police officers is as important as developing their knowledge and skills through their public safety field training.

Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac, director of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Training Service, visited Cebu on Tuesday to witness the graduation and badge of honor ceremony for a total of 320 rookie cops who finished the public safety field training program for "Madasig" Class 2021-02-R7 at the Camp Sergio Osmeña Sr. here.

“You have successfully completed the public safety field training program (PSFTP) as a requirement to become a regular member of the PNP. Under your PSFTP, you have been taught three basic phases under the standard training package which consists of patrolling, investigation and traffic (management),” Banac told the 257 male and 63 female new cops in Region 7.

He urged the new police officers to use the “fundamental knowledge and skills they acquired during the year-long training to make them “effective and efficient members of the PNP not only for today but for the future”.

The new graduates of the police training program have been equipped with moral and spiritual learnings as well as leadership development and anger management training through volunteer lecturers and facilitators.

Banac prodded them to develop their spiritual lives in conjunction with one of their core values which is “maka-Dios” (Godly).

“We have done this despite the difficulties that we have encountered during the pandemic. And so with that, I expect you that you will remain mentally, physically and spiritually-prepared police officers,” he said.

The new field training program graduates showcased their skills in stick-fighting (arnis), karate and arresting technique during the ceremony.

“I congratulate you for a very well-performed demonstration of skills. That shows the level of skills that you have acquired and the confidence that you have after the one-year training period,” Banac added. (PNA)
