CEBU CITY – Acting Mayor Michael Rama on Tuesday renewed his call to city government personnel to support his "no vaccine, no bonus" policy aimed at pushing for the vaccination rollout against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

In a press conference, he reminded the employees of the government efforts to achieve the 70-percent population protection target before Christmas.

“In adopting measures to ensure City Hall employees are vaccinated, that as your acting mayor, I also mean business. No bakuna (vaccination), no bonus! What are you waiting for? Be vaccinated,” Rama said.

He also reminded city residents that those who would get vaccinated have a chance to win prizes before the December 23 deadline of the "PaBakunaTa Bonanza" raffle draw.

Meanwhile, Rama said the city supports the decision of President Rodrigo Duterte to lift the mandatory use of face shields in public places.

On Monday, Duterte approved the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) lifting the mandatory use of face shields in areas under Alert Level 1 to 3.

Rama said the convergence group advising him on Covid-19 response also recommended dropping the use of face shield, which prompted him to issue a directive on November 10 allowing residents to enter malls, restaurants, and other indoor spaces without a face shield.

Department of Health (DOH)-Central Visayas chief pathologist Dr. Mary Jean Loreche said Tuesday the easing restrictions, including face shield wearing, “is a welcome development”.

“However, let’s take it as our personal advocacies to be more mindful than ever in ensuring our safety including that of our families. Keeping the distance and avoidance of crowded spaces, the proper use of face masks and hand washing, choosing well-ventilated areas instead of enclosed spaces should be the norm,” Loreche said in a message to the Philippine News Agency.

She urged the people to reciprocate the President’s decision by getting themselves fully vaccinated to have added protection against Covid-19. (PNA)
