ILOILO CITY – The city government here gave booster shots of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccines to 109 healthcare workers on Thursday while the provincial government is still waiting for guidelines.
“I met with the Covid Team to discuss the inoculation of booster shots of our healthcare personnel so we can proceed with our senior citizens and those with comorbidities for added protection,” Mayor Jerry Treñas announced.
The city government will be providing vaccines to hospitals, district health centers, and vaccination centers to expedite the provision of booster shots, he said.
Based on the report of the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH WV CHD), Iloilo City, as of Nov. 16, has fully vaccinated 97. 61 percent of the 335, 172 national target eligible population while 109. 33 percent have at least received their first dose.
From Oct. 29 until Nov. 17, some 28,102 minors have been given their first dose.
Meanwhile, the provincial government is ready to administer booster shots once it gets a go-signal, Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. said in his regular press conference.
“If we have the guidelines and we have the go signal we will start immediately,” he said.
He said as of Nov. 17, the province was still waiting for guidelines.
Data from the Iloilo Provincial Health Office showed that as of Nov. 17, its vaccination rollout has given at least one dose of the vaccines to 645, 701 of the 70 percent eligible population while 459, 895 are fully vaccinated.
It has also rolled out its vaccination program for 12 to 17 years old minors. (PNA)
