ZAMBOANGA CITY – Some 545 medical front-liners here, who belong to the A1 priority group, have received their booster dose of vaccine against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite, city health officer, said Tuesday that the booster doses the medical front-liners have received were from Pfizer, Moderna, and Sinovac.

Miravite said that the administration of booster dose started Monday initially at the government hospitals and “later on it will be also administered in private hospitals”.

“We are still waiting for additional vaccine supplies and logistics from the Department of Health to expand the roll-out of the booster dose,” Miravite said.

A booster dose, given after an earlier (primary) dose, re-exposes a person to the immunizing antigen to increase immunity back to protective levels, after memory against that antigen has declined over time.

Miravite said eligible to receive a booster dose are those who have been fully vaccinated six months after their second dose.

City Heath Office records showed that there are 17,037 medical front-liners who are fully vaccinated as of November 21. (PNA)
